Studentjob

students.jpgWant to combine work and study? Looking for additional income during the holidays or through the academic year? Would you like to work in a hospital, nursing home, laboratory or in the homecare sector? Express Medical can help you to find what you are looking for.

Select the status you wish to work under: Student subject to Social Security contributions (student worker) or Student not subject to Social Security contributions (student doing part-time work)

All students working for an employer and receiving a salary come under the legislation for student workers. This legislation sets out what is allowed and what is not in terms of student work, as well as the rules governing Social Security contributions, income tax and entitlement to family allowance.

You are required to select the status you wish to work under at the beginning of the year. Once you have made your choice, you can no longer change it and the status chosen will apply for the entire calendar year. It will also define the maximum number of days that you can work during the year.

There are two separate statuses:

  • the status of a student not subject to Social Security contributions, which enables you to receive a higher level of net pay;
  • the status of a student subject to Social Security contributions, which has the advantage of no restrictions regarding the number of days you can work during the year.

Think carefully: the choice is yours!

Status of a student not subject to Social Security contributions

  • With this status, the maximum number of authorised working days per year is 46: 23 days during terms 1, 2 and 4 + 23 during the summer holidays (July, August, September).
  • The amount of Social Security contributions deducted from your pay is then limited to a "solidarity" contribution (4.5% during the academic year and 2.5% during the summer holidays) and no withholding tax will be deducted from your pay.

Status of a student subject to Social Security contributions

  • With this status, you can work as many days per year as you wish
  • On the other hand, the amount deducted from your pay for Social Security contributions will be 13.07% (the same as for a normal worker) and an amount of withholding tax will be deducted from your pay.
